Mariagrazia Pontono: Roots

By (author) Raffaele Bedarida, By (author) et al.

| book description |

This title offers a superbly illustrated overview of latest work video artist Mariagrazia Pontono. This volume contains images, materials and texts relating to Roots , a work by Mariagrazia Pontorno created on the occasion of her artist's residency at the Harlem Studio Fellowship in New York. Roots is a visionary animation in 3D in which the skyscrapers of Manhattan visible from Central Park, together with some of the park's vegetation, are uprooted from the earth and lift off in flight. Alongside the video is a series of eight prints of fabricated images inspired by the traditional iconographies of the herbariums. The project was born of the observation and study (in the library of the botanical garden in the Bronx) of the botanical species that bloomed in the celebrated green rectangle of the American metropolis during the artist's stay in New York.
