| book description |
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION A faithful portrait of the dreams, reality, desires and frustrations of today's Cuba. On a Havana terrace overlooking the Malecón, a group of old friends gather to celebrate the unexpected return of Amadeo, exiled in Spain for sixteen years. What begins as a festive evening in which stories and melodies from his youth are remembered with laughter, becomes, as the night progresses, a cathartic encounter to the point of shuddering. As if History had passed over them, we know the reasons and secrets of each one of them, the lost illusions, but also the lack of future and the disappointment of the present. The reader will find here the extraordinary script of the film Return to Ithaca, which is already for many the best portrait of today's Cuba. The volume is completed with the process that Leonardo Padura and Laurent Cantet followed to arrive at it, the making off that explains how, from Padura's own La novela de mi vida (Novel of my Life), they achieved the dramatic framework of this magnificent and bitter story, destined to endure.i
