| book description |
As one of Germany's oldest museums, the Stadel Museum combines seven hundred years of art history with two hundred years of the active cultivation of contemporary art. With the opening of its extension in 2012, the museum was not only able to better present its collection of post-1945 art, but it could continue its expansion, acquiring an unprecedented one thousand works within just a few years. This was made possible in particular by the willingness of both Deutsche Bank and DZ Bank to present the Stadel with important bodies of works from their collections. The museum also accepted a number of generous donations in recent years, and the Stadel Committee for the 21st Century which was formed in 2007, contributed to this growth through its commitment of patronage. Besides the three hundred works from the first edition, this new version now presents more than forty additional entries into the Stadel's collection.
