Der Architekt Egon Eiermann (1904-1970) ist heute vor allem für seine nach 1945 entstandenen Bauten bekannt: für die Taschentuchweberei in Blumberg (1949-1951), das Hochhaus des Deutschen Bundestages in Bonn (1965-1969) oder das IBM-Verwaltungsgebäude in Stuttgart (1967-1972). Weniger scharf als das Bild, das wir von seiner Karlsruher Lehrtätigkeit (1947-1970) und seinem architektonischen Ouvre aus dieser Zeit haben, ist dasjenige seiner Berliner Jahre, in denen er die Grundlagen seiner Nachkriegskarriere legte. Eiermanns Frühwerk und dessen Entstehungsbedingungen werden in diesem Band eingehend dokumentiert.
