Der Autor untersucht die existenzielle Frage für Menschen mit Epilepsie und deren Familien nach der frühzeitigen Anfallserkennung mit einem praktikablen und alltagstauglichen System in Form eines In-Ohr-Sensors. Dazu führt er eine Studie im Mixed-Methods-Design im Norddeutschen Epilepsiezentrum durch und befragt zur Praktikabilität das pflegerische, medizinische und therapeutische Personal in Fokusgruppen. Um die Erwartungen und Erfahrungen der Kinder und Eltern zu erfassen, wurden Fragebögen eingesetzt. Die Erfahrungen mit dem Sensor sind über alle Gruppen hinweg grundsätzlich positiv und das System könnte einen Beitrag zur Gesundheitsversorgung sowie zur Entwicklung und emotionalen Entlastung von epilepsieerkrankten Kindern und Jugendlichen leisten. Dazu bedarf es jedoch noch einiger Anpassungen.
