​Netzwerkressourcen sind zwar in vielfältigen Lebenssituationen hilfreich aber sozial ungleich verteilt. In diesem Buch wird ein Sozialkapital-Modell präsentiert, das beschreibt und erklärt, in welchem Ausmaß soziale Ressourcen aus persönlichen Netzwerken verfügbar sind und genutzt werden. Aussagen über die ungleiche Verteilung sozialer Netzwerkressourcen werden empirisch für unterschiedliche Stadtgesellschaften geprüft. Im Ergebnis zeigt sich, dass der Zugang zu sozialen Ressourcen von anderen wertvollen Ressourcen (Wissen, Prestige, Einkommen) abhängt. Darüber hinaus sind aber auch kompensatorische Effekte zwischen sozialen und anderen Ressourcen nachweisbar. Im Hinblick auf die Nutzung sozialen Kapitals zeigt sich der Wert situationsspezifischer sozialer Ressourcen.
