Als Untersuchungsgegenstand dient die kaiserliche Botschaft in Venedig während der Regierung Maria Theresias, eine der ältesten habsburgischen Botschaften. Durch eine Kombination aus institutionsgeschichtlichem Ansatz und akteurszentriertem Zugriff wurde die Tätigkeit der Botschaft analysiert. Somit konnte ein umfassendes Bild sowohl von den Rahmenbedingungen als auch den individuellen Tätigkeiten der Botschafter rekonstruiert und ausgewertet werden.
