Das Parlement de Provence erließ in der Zeit seines Bestehens von 1501 bis 1790 zahlreiche arrêts de règlement. Das waren formelle 'Entscheidungen' der Höchstgerichte Frankreichs, die weit über die Funktion eines Gerichts hinausgingen. Denn sie enthielten allgemeinverbindliche Regeln für unterschiedliche Gegenstände, gewöhnlich ohne Bezug zu einem Parteiverfahren. Der Widerspruch zur primären Rolle der Parlements als Gerichte lässt sich nicht einfach mit der Vermengung von Gewalten im Ancien Régime erklären. Dieser Band betrachtet die Parlements als gerichtlich organisierte Gesetzgeber. Auf der Grundlage einer anschaulichen Auswertung der überlieferten arrêts de règlement des Parlements de Provence zeichnet der Autor Inhalte, Form und Verfahren der Akte nach.
