Das Buch skizziert anhand authentischer Lebenszeugnisse, wie Biographien, Tagebücher und Interviews sowie fiktionaler Texte, wie Erzählungen und lyrische Gedichte, ein Porträt der Lyrikerinnen und beschreibt eindrücklich das Emigrantenmilieu in der Großstadt New York.
