Der Autor zeigt anhand des Finanzsystems auf, warum es notwendig ist, die ökonomische Bildung in eine sozialwissenschaftliche Bildung zu überführen. Dabei entwickelt er ein Schema zur Darstellung des Finanzsystems und führt aus, warum die Märkte des Finanzsystems immer von einem Marktversagen betroffen sein können. Zur Krisenhaftigkeit trägt ebenfalls die internationale Verknüpfung über den Weltkapitalmarkt bei, der in die Darstellung integriert wird. Basierend auf dieser Analyse wird nachgewiesen, wie wenig die herkömmliche ökonomische Bildung zum Verständnis des Finanzsystems beiträgt. Der Autor präsentiert anschließend Vorschläge zur Weiterentwicklung des Ökonomieunterrichts.
