Das welthandelsrechtliche Subventionsrecht unterscheidet zwischen verbotenen, anfechtbaren und nichtanfechtbaren Subventionen. Allerdings sind die Ausnahmebestimmungen zur Nichtanfechtbarkeit ausgelaufen, so dass nun alle Subventionen zumindest theoretisch anfechtbar sind. Matthias Bickel untersucht die aktuelle Rechtslage von nichtanfechtbaren Subventionen, prüft deren Verhältnismäßigkeit und zeigt auf der Grundlage von ökonomischen Rechtfertigungsgründen Reformansätze auf. Dabei führt er wirtschafts- und rechtswissenschaftliche Methoden zusammen. Beibehaltungsfähige Subventionen können seiner Ansicht nach zwar als Zwischenlösung angesehen werden, jedoch besteht politischer Handlungsbedarf, wieder eine ausgewogene Subventionsrechtsordnung zu schaffen.
