In diesen Untersuchungen werden einzelne Aspekte des Sombartschen Werkes wie etwa die Prägung durch die handwerksgeschichtlichen Arbeiten der historischen Schule der Nationalökonomie ausführlich kontextualisiert und Sombarts Verhältnis zu prominenten Zeitgenossen wie Max Weber, Robert Michels oder auch Max Scheler eingehend behandelt. Dabei decken die Einzelstudien die gesamte Zeitspanne seines öffentlichen Wirkens von den späten 1880er bis in die 1930er Jahre hinein ab.
