In einer Vielzahl von Sprachen lässt sich eine sehr begrenzte, aber auffällige Gruppe von Verben finden, deren besonderes Merkmal darin besteht, regelhaft ein und derselben Nominalphrase sowohl die Funktion des Objekts als auch die des Subjekts zuzuweisen, ohne selber ihre Gestalt zu verändern. Die Ermittlung dieser Verben im Spanischen erfolgt durch die Anwendung der Formel Laganes in syntaktischer und die Einbeziehung der «Kontiguität» in verbsemantischer Hinsicht. Hierbei beschränkt sich die synchrone Untersuchung auf die Verben lateinischen Ursprungs. In der folgenden diachronen Untersuchung wird bei jedem der ermittelten Verben der Entstehungszeitpunkt seines ambivalenten Verhaltens ausgehend vom klassischen Latein ausfindig gemacht. Die Untersuchung führt zu dem Ergebnis, dass von den 96 Verben insgesamt ca. 30% in der lateinischen Sprachepoche und der größte Teil erst im Altspanischen (56%) zu finden ist. Das Ergebnis führt zu dem Schluss, dass die diathetische Ambivalenz das Produkt der vulgären Sprachebene ist und im Zeitraum des «Romance» ihren Höhepunkt hatte.
