El objetivo de este estudio es delimitar los usos discursivos de las dos construcciones pasivas del español, tanto comparadas entre sà como con otras construcciones relacionadas. Dos preguntas fundamentales que se intentan contestar son: ¿en qué situaciones se utiliza una oración pasiva en lugar de una oración activa? y ¿qué situaciones favorecen el uso de una u otra de las dos construcciones pasivas de que dispone el español? El punto de vista funcional y cognitivo adoptado exige reexaminar la definición tradicional de voz pasiva y la clasificación de las construcciones pasivas del español que normalmente manejan las gramáticas. Este estudio pone énfasis en el análisis empÃrico, que combina el método cuantitativo y cualitativo, y está realizado sobre un corpus contempóraneo que incluye textos de diversos géneros.
