Für die historische und theologische Einschätzung des Vaticanum II ist außer den konziliaren Entscheidungen selber deren Rezeption durch die Ortskirchen von Bedeutung. Das gilt zumal für ein Konzil, das eine Reform der Kirche anstrebt. Ob und wie ein Konzil wirksam wird, hängt wesentlich auch von den Ortskirchen ab. Die vorliegende Untersuchung bietet eine umfangreiche und eingehende Analyse der Rezeption des Konzils in der baskischen Diözese Bilbao. Neben der historischen Beschreibung der Rezeptionsvorschriften ist das Hauptanliegen der Arbeit ein ekklesiologisches, nämlich die Betonung jener charakteristischen Züge im Kirchenbild, die sich als Ergebnis des konkreten Rezeptionsvorgangs herausgestellt haben.
