Die Frage, ob es überhaupt eine Lehenserbfolge in weiblicher Linie gegeben hat, wird auch heute noch von Rechtshistorikern und Historikern gestellt und je nach Standpunkt unterschiedlich beantwortet. Eine bejahende Antwort auf diese Frage geben die sogenannten Libri feudorum, die, wie die vorliegende Untersuchung zeigt, geltendes Recht im Reichslehenswesen des Heiligen Römischen Reiches bis zu seinem Untergang im Jahr 1806 waren. In der vorliegenden Untersuchung werden die einzelnen Regeln für eine Erbfolge in weiblicher Linie dargestellt und ihre Bedeutung auch für das heutige Recht bezüglich der «adeligen» Familiennamen aufgezeigt.
