Auf Basis der modernen Finanzierungstheorie betont der Kreditkanal die Rolle des Bankkredits für die geldpolitische Transmission. Die Arbeit untersucht diese - erst in den 90er Jahren und vor allem für die USA diskutierte - Hypothese theoretisch und empirisch für Deutschland, unter Berücksichtigung der spezifischen Besonderheiten des deutschen Finanz- und Zentralbanksystems. Sie zeigt, daß Deutschland mit dem Hausbankprinzip und mit der großen Bedeutung des Bankkredits für die Unternehmensfinanzierung zwei Charakteristika aufweist, die entgegengesetzt auf die empirische Relevanz des Kreditkanals wirken. Sie zeigt aber auch, daß das typische Verhalten der Bankkredite nach geldpolitischen Impulsen nicht mit traditionellen Ansätzen, wohl aber mit dem Kreditkanal erklärt werden kann.
