Die Arbeit diskutiert Judith Butlers gender-Konzeption im Kontext der Entwicklungsgeschichte der feministischen Theorie seit den 70er Jahren, insbesondere aber im Kontext des dekonstruktiven Feminismus. Hedwig Wagners Studie fokussiert die zentrale Theorie-Figur von Butler, «gender als Performativität», unter dem Aspekt von Zirkularität. Sie zeigt nicht nur, daß gender zirkulär strukturiert ist, sondern weist in ausführlichen Einzelanalysen auf, daß bereits die Butlersche dekonstruktive Argumentationslogik zirkulär angelegt ist und dadurch Butlers gender-Programmatik, ihr «politisches Projekt», untergraben wird. Die Studie zeigt u.a., daß es bei Judith Butler nicht nur zufällige Korrespondenzen gibt zu Jean Baudrillard, sondern daß das gender-Konzept frappierende Ähnlichkeit hat zum Simulakren-Konzept Baudrillards.
