Die Wertschätzung der Septuaginta (LXX) und ihrer hebräischen Quelle hat sich im Bereich der Textkritik und der Textgeschichte während der letzten Jahrzehnte - von den Entdeckungen der Handschriften am Toten Meer bis zu den heutigen Diskussionen - beachtlich verändert. In den historischen Bëchern (Samuel und Könige) bestätigt die LXX in der Tat oft eine Textform, die sich vom massoretischen Text unterscheidet. Der Autor fragt deshalb, ob sie nicht auf einer anderen hebräischen Vorlage beruht als dem Vorfahren des letzteren (nämlich dem protomassoretischen Text) und allenfalls älter ist als dieser. Die vorliegende Studie möchte einen doppelten Beitrag zu dieser Diskussion leisten, einerseits theoretischer und andererseits empirischer Art.
