Um 1280 im Auftrag des französischen Kardinals Jean Cholet entstanden, weist sie ein für Bologna typisches Dekorationssystem auf, das auf Pariser Modelle zurückgreift. Die malerische Ausgestaltung des Codex hebt sich durch zwei Charakteristika hervor: durch eine Ansammlung antiker Motive sowie einen Malstil, der das akkurate Studium byzantinischer Kunst der frühen Palaiologenzeit zur Voraussetzung hat. Die Studie beschreibt die Modi der Adaption östlicher wie westlicher Motive und Stile und stellt einen Buchmaler vor, der sowohl intellektuell als auch künstlerisch mit seinem Bildrepertoire spielerisch umzugehen weiß.
