Der erste Sakralbau an der Stelle der heutigen St. Reinoldi-Kirche in Dortmund entstand wohl schon zu Beginn des 9. Jahrhunderts als karolingisches Missionszentrum, bei Grabungen nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg kam das Fundament der nachfolgenden Saalkirche aus dem . Jahrhundert zu Tage. Der nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wieder errichtete Bau stellt den im Übergangsstil von Romanik zur Gotik gehaltenen Neubau von 27 und seine spätgotischen Anbauten dar. Die in der Kirche befindlichen Kunstwerke aus dem 4. und 5. Jahrhundert konnten weitestgehend vor den Luftangriffen gerettet werden und stehen auch heute den Besuchern der Kirche zur Besichtigung bereit.
