Die Heinrich-Heine-Universität hat ihr Gesicht verändert, und der Umgestaltungsprozess steht erst am Anfang. Mit Juridicum, Oeconomicum und OASE sind in das einheitliche Ambiente des in den Jahren nach der Gründung der Hochschule (1965/66) errichteten Campus architektonische Solitäre gesetzt worden. Die allgemeine Wendung in der Architektur zu attraktiven und/oder spektakulären Einzellösungen wirft aber auch die Frage auf, ob Konzepte, wie sie in den 1960er und 1970er Jahren für die Universität Düsseldorf realisiert wurden und die das Ganze in den Blick nahmen, es nicht doch verdienen, neu (und vielleicht auch affirmativer als bislang geschehen) diskutiert zu werden. Für eine solche Diskussion liefert CampusKunst als Grundlage eine Bestandsaufnahme. Zu der architektonischen Bestandsaufnahme kommt eine Bestandsaufnahme der Plastiken und Gemälde, die als Kunst am/im Bau in Auftrag gegeben, gekauft oder gestiftet wurden und die im vorliegenden Buch ebenfalls mit der Empfehlung vorgestellt werden, neu (oder überhaupt!) betrachtet zu werden.
