Dabei geht es um die gemeinsame Bewährung der Helden bei der Beseitigung monströser Bedrohungen der ritterlichen Welt, aber auch um derbe Komik und um Elemente des Wunderbaren. Geboten wird eine überlieferungsnahe Neuausgabe der beiden Versionen des aventiurehaften Dietrichepos ('Älterer Sigenot'; 'Jüngerer Sigenot' in Handschriften- und Druckfassung), ergänzt durch knappe Erläuterungen zu den Textzeugen, zur Versionen- und Fassungsbildung und zum Editionsverfahren sowie durch Literatur- und Namensverzeichnisse. Damit werden der Forschung eine überlieferungsnahe Textgrundlage für Interpretationen und Material für weiterführende Untersuchungen zu heldenepischer Fassungsbildung und Varianz zur Verfügung gestellt.
