Gegenstand des Bandes ist die Geschichte des Imaginationsbegriffes in der franzÃ¶sischen AufklÃ¤rung. Der Band rekonstruiert ausgehend von einer synthetisierenden Ãœbersicht in insgesamt 27 Dossiers (Einleitungen und Textausschnitte) die Entwicklungsgeschichte des Imaginationsbegriffs von Malebranches â€šRecherche de la vÃ©ritÃ©â€˜ (1674) und seinen frÃ¼haufklÃ¤rerischen Rezeptionen bis hin zu frÃ¼hromantischen Positionen. Dabei liegt ein besonderes Augenmerk auf der Einbettung des Konzepts in unterschiedliche erkenntnistheoretische Kontexte (Cartesianismus, Sensualismus, Materialismus). Zudem werden verschiedene Wissensfelder und Disziplinen (Erkenntnistheorie, VermÃ¶genslehren, Medizin, Anthropologie, Poetik) insofern berÃ¼cksichtigt, als sie ihrerseits den Imaginationsbegriff operationalisieren und ihn Ã¼ber sehr unterschiedliche Umwege zu einem zentralen Instrument des modernen MÃ¶glichkeitsdenkens machen. Der Band bietet erstmalig eine zugleich ideen- und kulturgeschichtliche Analyse der Konzeptualisierung des Begriffs im Verlaufe des franzÃ¶sischen 18. Jahrhunderts.
