Demgegenï¿½ber wurden Zufï¿½lle lediglich als Symptome eines mangelnden Wissens verstanden, denen ein eigenstï¿½ndiges Handlungspotenzial nicht zukommt. Im Gegensatz dazu wird in dem Band erkundet, - ob und in welcher Weise Transformationen von Zufallsfunden, unbeabsichtigten Nebenfolgen oder ï¿½berraschenden Wendungen bestimmt sind, - welchen Transformationen die contingentia selbst unterliegt, die in ihrer Verbildlichung (als Tyche, Fortuna u. a.), aber auch in ihrer historischen Semantik in Theologie und Philosophie seit der Antike bis in die jï¿½ngste Gegenwart bemerkenswerten Verï¿½nderungen unterlag, - welcher spezifische Umgang mit Kontingenz in sozialen und politischen Prozessen, aber auch in Literatur und Kunst zu beobachten ist. Von besonderem Interesse ist dabei die Unterscheidung von Risiko und Gefahr (Luhmann).
