| book description |

Volume II of Edward Sapir’s Collected Works contains the re-edition of Sapir’s classic introduction to linguistics, Language (1921), enlarged with a new index, and some twenty-five articles, published between 1908 and 1939, in general, comparative and descriptive linguistics, including his publications on the African language Gweabo, on Judeo-German, and on English grammar. The majority of the articles are in the field of historical-comparative linguistics, dealing with ancient Indo-European languages such as Sanskrit, Hittite and Tocharian, and with Northwest Semitic languages (Ugaritic, Phoenician and Hebrew). The volume also contains the edition of unpublished notes of Sapir on the structure of English.
