Die Publikation hat zum Ziel, die kognitive Valenz von Textabbildungen in philosophischen Werken vergangener Jahrhunderte in Richtung einer Theorie und Geschichte epistemischer Text-Bild-Relationen zu erweitern und zu systematisieren. Mit dieser Untersuchung geht eine Kritik an gängigen Editionspraktiken einher sowie eine Neufassung des ""Text""-Begriffs, welche die Rolle von Bildern und der Textgestalt an der Formierung von epistemischen Diskursen reflektiert. In Konsequenz daraus werden zudem intertextualitätstheoretische Ansätze in der Literaturwissenschaft überprüft und in ihrer einseitigen Konzentration auf Text-Text-Beziehungen hinterfragt. Indem die Studie zeigen kann, daß Bilder Diskurse nicht einfach ergänzen, sondern mitkonstituieren, folgt schließlich, daß auch die Trennung von poetischen und philosophischen - oder allgemeiner: wissenschaftlichen - Texten neu zu diskutieren und gegebenenfalls aufzuheben ist, wenn letztere sich als ebenso von nichtpropositionalen Faktoren bestimmt erweisen.
