Keinem Philosophen brachte Hegel größere Wertschätzung entgegen als Aristoteles. Im Zentrum stehen nicht dessen Ansätze zu einer formale Logik, sondern Aristoteles' Metaphysik des Geistes, wie wir sie in den Büchern De anima und der Metaphysik finden. Hegel erkennt in ihr einen objektiven Idealismus, dessen höchstes Prinzip das sich selbst denkende Denken Gottes ist. An dieses höchste Prinzip, in dem Aristoteles die Ontologie, die Theologie und die Noologie vereinigt, knüpft Hegel in seiner Lehre von der absoluten Idee und des absoluten Geistes ausdrücklich an. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird zum ersten Mal dieser beeindruckende Rückgriff auf Aristoteles einer umfassenden historisch-systematischen Analyse unterzogen. Dabei ist die Fragestellung leitend, ob und, wenn ja, inwiefern Hegel berechtigt ist, seine eigene Metaphysik des Geistes bei Aristoteles präfiguriert zu sehen.
