Die St. Georgener Predigten gehï¿½ren zu den drei wichtigsten Predigtsammlungen des 13. Jahrhunderts. Sie wurden wohl im zweiten Viertel des Jahrhunderts im Oberrheingebiet als Lesepredigtsammlung fï¿½r weibliche Klosterangehï¿½rige in zisterziensisch geprï¿½gtem Milieu zusammengestellt. In den 40 Predigten werden, oft geprï¿½gt durch Bernhard von Clairvaux, theologisch anspruchsvolle Themen behandelt, hinzu treten Hinweise zum Klosterleben. Durch inhaltliche und formale Vielfalt und theologisches Niveau hebt sich die nicht auf lateinischen Vorlagen beruhende Sammlung deutlich von anderen volkssprachlichen Predigtsammlungen dieser Zeit ab. Ihre umfangreiche Wirkungsgeschichte im gesamten deutschen und niederlï¿½ndischen Sprachraum lï¿½sst sich an 29 Corpushandschriften und breiter Einzelï¿½berlieferung ablesen und reicht bis zum Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts. Als Leithandschrift dient der Neuedition, die sich auf die hochdeutsche ï¿½berlieferung konzentriert, die ï¿½lteste Handschrift G (Cod. St. Georgen 36, Karlsruhe, Badische Landesbibl. - letztes Viertel 13. Jh.). Regesten fï¿½hren in die Predigten ein, Apparate reprï¿½sentieren die beiden frï¿½hen Fassungen x und y, fï¿½hren Quellenbelege an und geben Verstï¿½ndnishilfen.
