| book description |
The architect and designer Ron Arad has worked with the graphic designer Neville Brody to create this unusual overview of design. Arad's own individual approach to design is reflected in this selection which focuses on technological innovation and on fresh ways of perceiving and creating objects, from computer-generated repeat patterns for textiles to jewel-like hand-held remote controls. In a varied compilation, such established names as Ettore Sottsass, Nanna Ditzel, Kenneth Grange and Gaetano Pesce are included with younger talent. The move towards environmentalism and the emergence of a new conservativeness in design continue to be important themes. This year also sees designers and manufacturers moving towards a new, more human design language, particularly in the fields of products. Illustrations are accompanied by technical data, and a reference section includes biographies of the designers featured, and a comprehensive list of suppliers and their addresses and an update of design acquisitions at the major museums.
