Terry Frost Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne

By (author) Dominic Kemp, Contributions by Charles Booth-Clibborn, Contributions by John Hoyland, Contributions by Brad Faine, Contributions by Stanley Jones

| book description |

Painter, printmaker and teacher Sir Terry Frost RA (1915-2003) was a key figure in the development of British 20th-century abstract art. He was also a prolific printmaker, and this important publication brings together, for the first time, a complete catalogue of the artist's prints. The result is a colourful visual history of Frost's remarkable printmaking career. Discovering a natural ability to capture likenesses, Frost began to explore his artistic talents when he was a prisoner of war. During the late 1940s, he honed and developed his artistic skills as a student at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. Dividing his time between the thriving art scenes of London and St Ives during the 1950s, Frost embraced abstraction and soon established himself as a leading British artist - a reputation which is still felt today. Prints were an essential element of Frost's oeuvre - he believed that painting and printmaking were inseparable and that each medium informed the other. The importance of printmaking within his evolution as an abstract artist is borne out by the sumptuous colour images reproduced here. Combining scholarship with arresting imagery, Terry Frost Prints offers both reference value and visual delight and as such is an essential purchase for all those interested in this major British artist.
