| book description |

This book gathers and interrogates all lines of research pertaining to the assessment, management, and treatment of psychopathy, with the goal of improving the functioning of the patient and reducing harm to potential victims and society at large. Research shows psychopathy is at heart a disorder of personality. Treating Psychopathy is divided into two parts. Part 1 develops the conceptual framework for risk reduction treatment of psychopathy culminating in the description of the two-component treatment model, while Part 2 translates the two-component model of psychopathy treatment into the realities and challenges of delivering such a treatment program. Discussions on the effective treatment of psychopathy often elicit as much curiosity as skepticism if not outright incredulity. However, over 5 decades of research on psychopathy have enabled major advances in our understanding of the assessment, prevalence, and etiology of psychopathy. Treatment can reduce recidivism among criminal offenders, and many effective interventions have received broad empirical support.
