| book description |

Kabir, born in fifteenth-century India, is held in veneration as poet, saint, and guru by Hindus and Muslims alike. His family were Muslim weavers, a class considered low and unclean. In his verse, he was sharply critical of hypocrisy, greed and violence, especially among religious people. He denounced the caste system and proclaimed the equality of all human beings, urging his listeners to direct experience of truth. To Christians engaged in inter-faith dialogue he offers points of unity in upholding common values.
