| book description |
Along with development and innovations, the harmful toxins and wastes generated by industries, poisonous gases released from vehicles, millions of non-biodegradable plastic commodities thrown away by medical and hospital facilities around the world have polluted our planet to an unrecognizable extent. Bioplastics: Environmental Impact, Sustainability and Applications is a comprehensive guide to encourage the inclusion of biodegradable, non-toxic, environmentally friendly bioplastics in the industrial, medical, and healthcare sectors in order to partially or totally substitute previously employed conventional, toxic materials that harm and pollute the planet where we live. The book provides a brief introduction into the sustainability and environmental impact of bioplastics. This is followed by a thorough discussion on bioplastic production from various algal, microbial and starch-based sources. With special focus on the fascinating properties of bioplastics, it then delves into their applications in areas such as packaging and consumer goods, medical and healthcare, industry and material science. The book aims to introduce and educate students, researchers, environmentalists and government about the new-age materials with fascinating properties and fewer disadvantages that could help in exploring different ways to save and protect our environment.
