It presents over 3200 Persian, Indian-Islamic, Turkish, and Arabic miniatures in the New York Public Library--principally from the Spencer collection--accompanied by 320 photographs, 24 in color; catalogues of all Islamic manuscripts in the Library qua manuscripts, including a unique collection from Baghdad; and current critical bibliographies of Islamic miniature painting. Schmitz provides descriptions of all significant bookbindings, in leather and lacquer-painted, and numerous Qur'ans and Qur'anic commentaries.
