Turbulence and Structures: Chaos, Fluctuations and Helical Self-organizaton in Nature and Laboratory
By (author) Herman Branover, By (author) Semyon Moiseyev
| book description |
Turbulence is one of the most widespread phenomena in the universe. It relates to processes within the atmosphere, ocean, and deep within the earth, as well as to stars. This book examines topics such as the helical mechanism of self-organization in nature and laboratory, and presents a unified approach to chaos and self-organization.;The chaotic and unpredictable behaviour of turbulent movement is difficult to study, and therefore the degree of understanding of turbulence is still far from complete. Some progress has been with the advent of the science of chaos theory, which succeeded in examining one basic feature of turbulence called helicity (or spirality), which can explain the generation of large turbulent structures, such as typhoons. Helicity has been found to exist not only in fluid flows but also in solid bodies and even in living organisms.;Among the topics discussed in this volume are the analogies and differences in the form of dynamic and magnetic structures. The book aims to successfully combine profound theoretical and experimental authority. Included is a disk with an expanded bibliographical database.
